Review: Went White - s/t (EP)

Label: The Ghost is Clear Records
This totally belongs on The Ghost is Clear Records. WENT WHITE are a new band out of Syracuse, New York, these 6 tracks mark their first output, and with them they are not too far away from other TGIC-acts. The vocals, who are switching from spoken words to angry barks back and forth, kinda remind me of INFINITY LAND or KISS IT GOODBYE. It's slightly out of tune sometimes, but not as much, also it's not as over-exaggerated and fucked up. I do like them a lot.

WENT WHITE somehow sound like the aforementioned bands discovered and cherished melodies. Sure, this is dark, heavy and ryhtmic stuff, there are bits of Noise-Rock and a lot of Sludge in this... still, it heavily relies on melodies. These are not happy-go-lucky melodies that you whistle while cleaning your toilet. These melodies are depressing, bleak, cranky, apocalyptic. The contrasting feeling is cool and gives these guys a lot of momentum. "Made Flesh", also the longest cut, has got to be my favourite, with its slow build-up, the eruption near the end and the epic feeling it spreads.

You won't be surprised with the lyrics, as this is dark as anticipated. Though it's pretty imaginative and obscure. To sum it up, WENT WHITE's debut effort is a well accomplished take on moody and shattered Post-Hardcore and a more than solid way to get 2022 started.
