Snapcase's "End Transmission" turns 20 (+ "Coagulate"-Video)
SNAPCASE's last studio album "End Transmission" may not be regarded a masterpiece and was pretty controversial among their fanbase... but, to me it's up there with their classic stuff from the 90s and might just be my all-around favourite album of theirs! I digged the fact, that they went the extra mile with their last LP, trying to create something arts-y. It was a concept album, featuring a lot of mellow and ambient tunes, highlighting their moody site. SNAPCASE proved to be more than the on-the-mouth-Hardcore-act they portrayed in the 90s.
No doubt, the album drags in the last third and is a bit too long at 45 minutes playtime. Also, Taberski never was as good of a singer to carry all those slow parts. Still, the record sounds fantastic. The textures of the production shine and I love the whole atmosphere. Nothing on here is a failure, and there are slower songs like the exceptional "New Kata" or the really good "Exile Etiquette" where the new style works smoothly. When SNAPCASE are in their comfort zone with fast and punchy songs full of their trademark groove, then they thrive in every way possible. Cuts like "Aperture", "The Beat", "First Word", and especially the opener "Coagulate" are absoulte winners. "Coagulate" turned into my favourite SNAPCASE-track ever. Yeah, forget about "Caboose" and "Incarnation"!
Give this album another chance if you demonized it 20 years back. It's more than worth it.
...but now to that video: As of yet I didn't know this video existed. It screams "early 2000s" and I bet nobody would have the guts to release something similar today but I think it's pretty cool nonetheless.
