"Cozy" bedroom sounds

Bird nests in Gutters - "Bird nests in Gutters"
Label: DIY

BIRD NESTS IN GUTTERS is the solo project of an artist that goes by the name of March. March is part of the Bedroom Skramz-community, though this is not really what you'd expect from a scene affiliate. The guy from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania describes the music as a kind of "collagey ambient" and indeed, it's just that. It's reduced, moody stuff with a few samples and some distorted, distant screams that are thrown-in occasionally.

The selftitled debut album by BIRD NESTS IN GUTTERS starts slow as fuck and it feels like nothing of note is happening in the first three tracks, that nearly take half of the record. The beginning isn't bad, though it's not my favourite part of the record. I think that March really get's going with the fourth track "milo & otis", an elegant track, with a jazz-y/blues-y vibe. I too like "I am a mosaic of everyone I've ever loved" (great title), with its outlandish feeling and the usage of different voice samples and extremely distorted screaming. We'll continue talking about the track titles, as the next one is called "Interlude", which is kinda cute, cause basically any track on here could be an interlude on another record. It's just two minutes of silent, and pretty basic ambient. Fair enough. "Scalped Wings" kinda emerges from the interlude and feels pretty similar, though there's a lot of suspense there and just as you could guess, the track turns into a Noise-attack half way in. Eventhough there are some heavier moments here and there, they're very low in the mix and used as an artistic element. I definitely enjoy  that and see it as a breath of fresh air in relation to Bedroom Skramz or Screamo in general. Then it's already time for the closer "together", that harkens back to the opener "the culmination of everything" and progresses in a similar fashion.

I surprisingly enjoyed BIRD NESTS IN GUTTERS as a sort of "relax record", even if some would call me silly chilling to music like that, but damn, we're Skramzheads, aren't we? There are some cool moments and ideas here, and for a debut record March did a good job to introduce their sound. Looking forward, there's enough room to explore for this project, especially when it comes to a few more original elements. I'm curious where this is going!
