Demo-Rec: Achers

The common procedure for posts like these is that I present a band that I discovered. In the case of ACHERS, it went the other way around, as they pretty much "discovered" me. They snatched the last spot for the "mEMOries"-series through a "Wild Card" and then were the first band to send me their contribution for the compilation in the form of a WAV that contained the song "Go In". They don't really fit in with most of the other "mEMOries"-bands, but damn, I was floored.

"Go In" is also the first of the two songs on their Demo. The four-piece out of London, UK plays beautiful, Emo-/Postcore that takes me back to the 90s. Bands like THE VAN PELT, BOYS LIFE, GARDEN VARIETY, DON MARTIN THREE, LUNGFISH, their compatriots from TRIBUTE TO NOTHING or even more destructive acts like DRIVE LIKE JEHU or SHOTMAKER come to my mind, when listening to ACHERS. For one thing, they're pretty noisy and fuckin' rough around the edges, but then again, they're in love with their melodies. The high fiddling, melodic guitar in "Go In" makes the the song something special, and the "Go In"-singalong is catchy as fuck. With a runtime of 2 minutes and 36 seconds, "Go In" proves that you can get eeeeepic within a short period of time...

"Asahi Bear", the second track, is slower and more sensitive. It starts with spoken words and a moody, playful intro (here's where they recall LUNGFISH), though the uneasy feeling gets demolished within the blink of an eye, with a beautiful and hopeful harmony. They get faster and heavier, before getting back to the stuff from the beginning. It's a song full of clashing contrasts and thus a pretty interesting one.

I definitely can't wait to hear more from these guys. Thanks for "discovering" me!
