Review: Bone Idl - s/t (EP)

Label: Brassneck Records
This just might be my new favourite Pop-Punk-band. BONE IDL hail out of South Wales and this is their debut effort. And... what a debut! This is just the way I like my Pop/Melodic-Punk: It's gruff, it's heartfelt, it's fast when needed, it's highly melodic throughout and it's suprisingly refreshing. The reference that quickly came to my mind, when listening to this, was DILLINGER FOUR. But you could also compare this to older LAWRENCE ARMS, NONE MORE BLACK, HOT WATER MUSIC or maybe even LEATHERFACE, just to name a band out of the UK. The production is a tad bit more polished than most of those bands' records, but that's no disaster.

These gentleman offer the whole package, as the lyrics follow suit, with their snotty but down to earth nature. The stories are written by life and I really love the sometimes melancholic, sometimes pissed of, sometimes hopeful or at least longing feeling they deliver. And the heck, what can I tell you about the vocals, but... the same? The singer makes you feel all of the mentioned emotions and has a very powerful, charismatic and fucking likeable voice.

Even when this comes across as corny or slimy or both, but my only criticism is that this is too short. That being said, the replay value is quite sick, especially with bangers like "Second to One", "1992" or "Kaleidoscope". They are the perfect Pop-Punk-anthems to stuck in your head for weeks to come. I'm looking forward to an album and am grateful for finding these guys!
