The Van Pelt's "Sultans of Sentiment" turns 25

I'll probably keep this short and refer to last year's write-up on "Stealing from our Favorite Thives". THE VAN PELT's second album "Sultans of Sentiment" is their most well known and also the one that received better ratings on many places. And I can see why, cause they sound a bit more defined and polished here, while sticking to all trademarks from start to finish.

"Sultans of Sentiment" is their second straight up masterpiece and I honestly can't decide which of their first two albums to love more. It's probably like deciding between fish and chips, so what do you expect?! Once again, there are so many great tunes to be found, from the goose bumps inducing opener "Nanzen kills a Cat" ("this is the absurdity by which we walk barefoot with shoes on our heads") to the screamy, freaked out "My Bouts with Pouncing", from the melancholic feeling of "Young Alchemists" to "We are the Heathens", their most anthemic song ever written, from one of their most well beloved lines in "Let's make a List" ("let's make a list, so we can feel like we're accomplishing something") to their most likely most beautiful song "Do the Lovers still meet at the Chiang Kei-Shek Memorial", from good to better, from awesome to, well, awesome. Happy 25th to "Sultans of Sentiment", happy anniversary to the heathens!

We are the psychos, the quitters, the all-time loser
We are the low-class, the unclean, the unkempt
We are the cretins, uncivilized millions, second-rate human beings
We are the heathens!
We are the heathens!
