Review: BEDTIMEMAGIC - Between the Sheets

This duo out of Boston, MA confirms the rule: The less manpower you have in a Noise-Rock-band, the crazier you gotta be. On their second full length "Between the Sheets" they build some progressive, chaotic soundscapes.

BEDTIMEMAGIC take some sheets (here we are again) out of the AmRep- & Touch & Go-styled book of the 90s, I especially feel THE JESUS LIZARD and UNSANE in this. While this may count for tracks like "Comforter", "Bunkmates" or the the first half of "Fitted Queen", it wouldn't do the whole album justice. BEDTIMEMAGIC are way more versatile and melodic then the mentioned legends. They already present this site to them in the opener "A Wake" with its wide-arching melodic lines and further emphasize it in the epic closer "Hittin' the Hay". In the second half of "Fitted Queen" they even dive into Noise/Drone-territories. It's the variety of sounds that keeps things interesting, from 26-second long neckbreakers to expansive 7-minute-tracks. All this in 23 slim and entertaining minutes without all too much repetition. Did I already mention that they use a pedal organ? Check the smashing "Count Sheep" to experience the full power of this instrument.

"Between the Sheets" was already released one year ago digitally and now becomes the vinyl treatment from Forbidden Place Records (a really interesting label for weird music, btw). If you're into Noise-Rock, give this record some of your time!
