Midwest Vienna Emo

Va Fa Napoli - s/t
Label: DIY
VA FA NAPOLI hail from Austria's capital Vienna and declare their music as "Midwest Vienna Emo". And... it's exactly just that. They play this style that CAP'N JAZZ came up with a long time ago, with fast rhythms, playful guitars, bright and catchy melodies and a kinda rubbish, doubled or trippled vocal-delivery. The four-piece does a wonderful job of capturing the feeling of a band like CAP'N JAZZ or BRAID or more modern incarnations like SNOWING. Tho, they are never as twinkly and/or wacky as those bands, and that's something that I actually dig.

Add a bit of the german/european flavoured Emo-goes-Post-Punk-style of WHAT PRICE WONDERLAND?, ROLLERGIRLS, THE RABBIT THEORY and ADORNO and you know what you're in for. To me, it's pleasantly nostalgic, as all of these bands are out of action for a long time now. VA FA NAPOLI don't reinvent the wheel, but they have a lot of charme and a lot of heart.

By the way, the members of the Austrian band are no greenhorns. One of them was active in the Post-Punk-combo LORRAINE that also got some coverage on the first version of this blog, a decade ago. Another one is a part of the Screamo-group UNABLE TO FULLY EMBRACE THIS HAPPINESS. And Jonas runs some awesome DIY-shows in Vienna. This project is on fire right now! In the next couple of weeks they'll host bands like JEROMES DREAM, EXISTENCE, SPEEDWAY and CHINESE FOOTBALL. So if you're from that area, follow them at MY NAME IS JONAS
