Witty Unpredictable Talent and Natural Game

Widely considered the best Hip-Hop-records of all time, WU-TANG CLAN's "Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)" turns not 36 but 30 years old today. First: I go with the majority and would call it one of the best genre releases ever. But, what's so special about it?

The obvious thing is that it's a culmination of pure talent. Some of the best MCs of their time came together for this and thankfully it's all about the rapping. There are no sung vocals or R'n'b parts to be found anywhere, it's Hardcore Hip-Hop from start to finish. In the early 90s Hip-Hop was a borefest. Somehow it didn't evolve from the 80s and so the genre needed something to wake it up. And this something was the WU-TANG CLAN. The rapping was confident, cocky, full of cusswords, aggressive and powerful as fuck. Fuck the conscious, fuck the funny, fuck the easy. They were here to claim a point and they did so with some of the best, most legendary verses of all time.

As magnificient the rapping was, the real star was the revolutionary production by RZA. Everyone already talked about his way of using Soul and Jazz samples in a dark and fucked up way. But what's really fascinating was how off-key the production was and what more so, how they could get as popular with such crooked (off-)beats and the whole gritty, "underground" style of their sound. Like most of the time with classics like these, it was also a thing of good timing. Cause -like I said before- Hip-Hop wasn't spectacular back then. It was popular, no doubt, but everyone seemed to long for something new and fresh.

I could go on, talking about all the legendary moments happening here, but it would blast the length of this post. Regarding the songs, I don't think "36 Chambers" is all bangers or whatever. A handful of the songs -especially "Bring da Ruckus", "Da Mystery of Chessboxin'", "Clan in da Front" and "Protect ya Neck"- are just TOO fucking good to be matched, though the quality is exceptionally high from beginning to end.

While you could argue if "Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)" is the best Hip-Hop-record of all time, you can't really argue about the fact that it was the most important Hip-Hop-record of all time.
